<h2 class="mb-5">The Art of Mixed Media</h2>
<p>There is something truly special and calming when the water sits still, revealing its glass like qualities while displaying its postcard perfect reflections. Or the play of light over the fields as the clouds float by. Artists live for the days when the light hits the fields around them just a certain way that the yellows play magnificently off the blue sky, wisped with clouds. Being surrounded by the most beautiful landscapes is sometimes all an artist needs to be inspired to create. One thing when referring to nature, it offers an artist an endless array of textures and colours to choose from and incorporating these concepts into art has always been a point of interest for many artists.</p>

<p>One visual art form which lends itself nicely to the natural world is the use of mixed media. The use of mixed media began around 1912 with the cubist collages and constructions of Pablo Picasso and Georges Braque and has become widespread as artists developed increasingly open attitudes to the medium in which art is created. Essentially art can be made of any one thing or any combination of things. Where, in the beginning mixed media was somewhat less organic and being extremely abstract it has changed and evolved into an abundance of different stylistic endeavours.</p>
<p>One artist, who is particularly an excellent example of drawing her inspiration from life around her as well as her mixed medium techniques is <strong><a href="https://www.facebook.com/ lindseysartwork" target="new">Lindsey Sluchinski</a></strong>. Lindsey is a self taught Airdrie artist working out of her home since 2017. Her passion for art was instilled in her since she was a young child and has earned her two awards: Outstanding performance in grade 9 and the 2019 AMNA Emerging Artist Award. Lindsey describes her style as “in between abstract and realism, to which her themes usually remain spiritual and mindful, utilizing an infusion of colour and deliberate texture”.</p>

<p>Lindsey gives her two dimensional images an added third dimensional feel exploring the textures of her subjects. Each painting is a wholistic explosion of colour and tactile expression. Although Lindsey suggests her artwork falls somewhere between abstract and realism, one thing is for sure, her art does have that organic, peaceful, and mindful heart that she speaks of. She has an impeccable eye for colour and composition, where shapes and strokes flow around the page in a dance that creates the most inviting and thought-provoking imagery. Lindsey utilizes textures to set the stage for the images to dance off the canvas and provides each painting with a very tactile and appealing result. </p>
<p>Lindsey rises to the creative task of her mixed media adventures into the natural world, with a creative fervour that is inspiring and breathtaking all at the same time. Her subject choices are both peaceful and playful and would fit nicely into any décor, modern or rustic. Her artwork strikes a balance between the abstract and realism she speaks of perfectly, and it is clear what she intended in her vision for each piece.
